Arbor Day, April 15, 2008

A sunny, cool day greeting all those gathered at the T.A. Lopez Park on 15th Street to celebrate Arbor Day, Tuesday, April 15, 2008.

Chavel Lopez, Mrs. Lopez and Soledad Najera

This year the Hondo Garden Club celebrated Arbor Day  by honoring T.A. Lopez
for all he has done for the community, at the park named for him.

Though Mr. Lopez was unable to attend his wife and son  were in attendance
as were honored members of the community,
HISD, city and county leaders and members of the Garden Club.
Everyone honored Mr. Lopez for all his work in the community
with the planting of two Crepe Myrtle trees this year.

The Crepe Myrtle trees planted this year are in addition to the Monterrey Oaks that were planted in the park last year.

Master of Ceremonies Bobby  Ainsley entertained everyone with his humor.

The McDowell Junior High School Band under the direction of  Leon Steward, entertained everyone with several outstanding selections.

Hondo Garden Club member Soledad Najera passed out certificates.

Everyone present enjoyed the ceremony and the beautiful morning.
